Solid Wood Flooring

One of the most commonly asked questions that we get day in day out is “ What Solid wooden flooring options are available” ?

Solid Wood Flooring Options

  1. Solid Wood.
  2. Engineered wood.

Solid wooden flooring is manufactured using only the Solid Oak or Wood Product, engineered flooring which is an alternative is manufactured using Plywood and a Solid Oak wood veneer. From an aesthetic standpoint both floors come in a vast array of different shapes, sizes and finishes and look the same when fitted.

Key facts in choosing your solid wood floor.

  1. What preference do you have on Wood ? Oak Flooring tends to be the most popular and readily available.
  2. What finish do you require, the most common wood floor finishes are Lacquered, Oiled Brushed and Oiled or more commonly UV oiled.
  3. Width of the boards ?
  4. What length boards ?
  5. Do you require a rustic Wood floor finish or a heavily stained finish.
  6. Do you like more or less knots. Wooden flooring has been graded, certain floors will include a lot of knots and imperfections other prime grade floors wont include as many knots and shakes.

How to fit your Solid wooden floor and what wood floor preparation needs to be carried out.

  • Solid wood will need to be stuck down using an elasticated wooden flooring adhesive product ( Sika is a good product ).
  • It is highly advised that when fitting Solid wood on to concrete a liquid damp proof membrane is used.
  • Solid wood flooring is usually Tongue and grooved.
  • Use an experienced qualified wood flooring fitter.
  • Take moisture readings of areas floor is going to be fitted.

Solid Wood flooring is a beautiful timeless alternative to Tiles and Carpet. Once installed correctly it will last a lifetime. There are a wide number of products available on the market place however if you get an idea of what you are looking for before you start the selection process will be made a lot easier.
