Plastic Fence Panels New for 2017

PVC FencingPlastic Fence Panel

New Fencing for 2017

Plastic fence panels are one of the new garden fencing product ranges that we will be stocking in 2017. We have recently installed a plastic Garden Fencing display area at our design centre in Pontardulais  ( Swansea South Wales ) .

In the past our ethos as a Timber merchant has always been based around supplying high quality timber products, however we have decided to look outside the box to try and meet the wants and needs of the customer. With this in mind we have found that a number of our customers are asking for low maintenance alternatives to wooden fencing Panels.

So why are consumer habits changing

  • One of the reasons we feel is down to the fact that the population in Britain is increasing in age, there are a lot more people of retirement age and older who are unable to or basically don’t want to have to maintain their traditional wooden fencing panels, so they are looking for an alternative.
  • Consumers no longer enjoy a day in the garden treating their fencing panels ( I know that I don’t ).
  • Our climate is warm and wet and therefore makes constant maintenance of Wooden panels difficult to plan.
  • The introduction of aesthetically pleasing alternatives to wooden fencing has meant that Vinyl or PVC Fencing is more desirable.

So does that mean that wooden fencing is it going to be a thing of the past ?

The answer to this question is quite simply “ No “.  We predict that our sales of wooden fencing products will remain the same even with the introduction of Plastic & Vinyl Fencing alternatives.  Short to long term we don’t see sales of wooden fencing falling.  This will be mainly down to four key factors.

  • Plastic fence panels generally work out a lot more expensive than wooden fencing Panels.
  • Plastic fencing isn’t as diverse and therefore is limited in its applications.
  • Aesthetically people will always prefer wooden fencing to PVC Fencing.
  • The choice of designs is not available in the PVC fencing ranges.

Nevertheless for the customer who is looking for an alternative to timber Plastic or Vinyl fencing is a great alternative.

For further information on all types of fencing and garden products feel free to call down to our branch in Swansea South Wales or give us a call on 01792 884828.

Laminate Flooring Article

Quickstep Laminate Flooring

Laminate Floors  Laminate Flooring

As an organisation  we made a decision a long time ago to only stock high quality laminate flooring Products.

Laminate floors have become increasingly popular thanks to a combination of qualities which include durability, toughness, easy maintenance, and affordable pricing. For those who are considering adding this type of flooring to their home, it is important to understand the product.

Which brand of Laminate Flooring ?

When it comes to finding the best in laminate flooring, we have found that there are few products that can match the overall performance of Quickstep.

If you find yourself at a laminate flooring showroom, you may notice the low, affordable prices that are offered on Laminates. However, with Laminate Flooring quite often if you buy cheap you pay twice.

However if you do manage to Find a decent quality Laminate floor the benefits can be endless.

So what is Laminate Flooring & what makes it better than any other hard surface Floor ?

Durability: Because laminate flooring is constructed from a wide variety of different materials, they bond together to form a very resistant core. This makes it highly durable and resilient to staining and impacts. It also holds together for many years without dulling.

Easy Maintenance: All you need to do is occasionally sweep or use a damp mop on the floor to keep it clean. The transparent top layer keeps dirt particles from coming into contact with the underlying design. This means that the occasional sweeping or spot cleaning when you see dirt collecting will maintain its appearance.

Variety: You can choose from a wide variety of selections when it comes to color, patterns, and designs to match the décor of your home.

Affordability: While tiles and hardwood flooring offer the same advantages as laminate in terms of overall durability and simple maintenance, one big difference is the cost. Laminate flooring is very inexpensive when compared both tile and hardwood. Plus, laminate flooring is easy to install

What Makes Quickstep Perspective in our opinion the Best Laminate Floor Product on the market ?

There are several reasons why we have found Quickstep to be the best overall Laminate floor.

  1. Ease of Fitting. Quickstep is by far the easiest laminate floor to install.
  2. Solid – Once the floor is fitted on a flat base the joins in the board are seamless.
  3. Unique HDF Core Board: The glued core board is the backbone of the laminate flooring system, providing excellent stability, durability, and resistance to moisture which will help keep the product solid and intact under normal use conditions.
  4. Durable Overlay: The Scotch guard overlay is a transparent substance that provides excellent resistance to scuffs, scrapes, and stains. The layer can even absorb impacts, chemical spills, and burns that would otherwise mark or damage the floor.
  5. Design & Balancing Layers: The balancing layer prevents the flooring from bowing or cupping and ensures proper installation over a flat surface. The design layer sits under the transparent overlay and provides a vision of real wood that is finished with a melamine resin for extra durability.

All of these features are put together to form an exceptional laminate floor that will resist staining, impacts, dust, dirt, and debris over a long period of time.

New Product Launch. Glueless Cushion Floor from Quickstep Flooring.

The flooring market is changing and developing at a rate of knots with the manufacturers constantly looking to keep up with current trends and innovative interior design concepts. With this in mind quickstep ( Unilin décor flooring )have recently launched a unique product line branded as the LIVYN Luxury Vinyl range. Vinyl sales over the past 2 years have been rising rapidly and quickstep have focused on this growing market with the Introduction of Quickstep LIVYN Vinyl range.

To give you an insight into exactly what Vinyl is  ?. Vinyl flooring is sometimes referred to as Cushion Floor or Lino, manufacturers such as Karndean or Amtico have sold this particular style of floor covering for a number of years it was widely used in kitchens through the early to mid 80s and is now making a come back.

So what makes Quickstep cushion flooring different ?

The main unique selling point that quickstep have over the competition is the way that this product is fitted. In years gone by Lino could only be fitted using a specific adhesive which can both be time consuming and expensive.

Quickstep have now designed a multifit locking system that requires no adhesive. This is a huge step forward as it now allows the carpenter or general DIY installer to fit a cushion floor to a high standard without having to call in the specialist company.

So what do the experts think of Glueless Lino flooring ?

We sent out three experienced Laminate floor fitters / builders to fit the product in  domestic houses to see what their opinion was.

Fitter 1 ( Dean Qualified Carpenter -  Fitted in a bathroom )

His overall opinion was that he felt that the product was really good. However due to his inexperience at fitting Lino flooring he felt that he needed a little bit more practice with the cutting of the product up against the bath and the basin in order to get the perfect finish. He commented that he should have fitted the product in a larger area that would have been easier on his first attempt.

When asked if Dean would use this product again the answer was a yes but he would require a little bit more experience before he worked on another bathroom.

Fitter 2 ( Chris General builder – Extension at side of house )

This small straight not complicated area is the best starting point for any fitter. Chris had no problems fitting the floor and couldn’t believe that something so thin had gone together using the multifit click system.

Overall he felt that the Quickstep Vinyl gave him the ability to fit cushion floor, in the past he had to call in a specialist contractor.

Fitter 3

Rhys ( Carpenter Joiner )

Rhys has fitted over 10 separate Vinyl floors, he has recently purchased a guillotine to cut the product as he feels that this will improve the overall ease of fitting of the Vinyl. He has completed a number of full houses in the Vinyl and is looking to promote the product in 2017 as a specialist in this area. Rhys has recently completed a master installers course in Quickstep Vinyl at their academy in Manchester.

Negative aspects of Glueless Vinyl

The feedback wasn’t all positive there were a few negative issues highlighted by the fitters. The main negative feedback that we discovered was that the floor levels had to be spot on in order to fit the product correctly. On a concrete sub floor this quite often meant a small amount of self levelling to ensure that the floor was fitted correctly.

There was a learning curve in getting use to the product if you were unfamiliar with fitting Vinyl cushion floor. The click system was a little fiddly until you got use to it.

Overall the feedback has been really positive, as a company we have sold over 1000m2 with no real problems. There are new ranges becoming available throughout 2017. Watch this space.
